Precision Light Cable

Laser Wire®
Light Without Limits.

A colored laser shining down a precision glass tube at the micron level. Under 1mm diameter. 4–10× brighter than EL Wire. Visible in daylight. Flexible enough to route through a dashboard, a garment, or the edge of a countertop — and precise enough for a superyacht helipad. If something needs to glow in a space where nothing else fits, this is the answer.

The core of Laser Wire® is a precision optical glass tube — similar in structure to a fiber optic cable, but engineered to emit light along its entire length rather than just at the end. Ellumiglow developed custom optics that take a standard laser diode and focus its output down to 170 microns (0.170mm) — precise enough to enter and propagate evenly through the glass tube from end to end.

The result is a wire that glows with even intensity across its full length from a single laser point source. No LED hotspots. No inverter hum. No diffusion material required. Because the glass core is flexible like wet spaghetti rather than rigid like standard fiber optic, it can be routed around corners, pressed into dashboards, sewn into garments with the Welted Profile, or routed along countertop edges without the minimum bend radius constraints of traditional fiber.

A single 20mW laser module — the size of a large thumb drive — illuminates up to 5 meters of cabling at daylight-visible brightness. A 70mW Capsule Module handles longer runs and integrates directly with DMX decoders and microcontrollers for programmable installs.

How it works — signal path
01
Laser Diode
5V DC input. Ellumiglow custom optics focus the beam to 170 microns — the entry point of the glass core.
02
Precision Glass Core
Light propagates through the glass tube. Micro-imperfections in the core scatter light evenly outward — 360° emission along the full run length.
03
Profile Jacketing
Round (0.7–0.9mm), Welted (keyhole cross-section for sewing/press-fit), or bare. Jacketing protects the glass and determines how it installs.
04
Output
Daylight-visible glow. No hotspots. No visible point source. Even intensity from connector to tip.

Which Profile Do You Need?

Laser Wire® cabling comes in four profiles. The profile determines the brightness at your run length, the installation method, and whether it can be sewn or press-fit into a surface. This is the most important decision before ordering.

Profile Run Length Brightness Cross-Section Best Use Cases Notes
Super Pop Max brightness Under 1m
~3 feet
Maximum
Most intense output per cm
Round · 0.9mm DIA Short accent details. Tight product inlays. Jewelry and wearable focal points. Any application where you need maximum visual impact in a very short run.
Under 1m only
Do not use for runs longer than 1m — brightness falls off significantly beyond design range. For short runs, nothing is brighter.
Pop General purpose Up to 5m
~16 feet
High
Even across full run
Round · 0.7mm DIA Countertop edge lighting. Retail fixture outlines. Costume full-body runs. Map and display borders. Most custom project applications.
Most popular
The standard choice for most builds. Pairs with OpalDrive (wearable, battery) or Capsule Module (commercial, external power, DMX).
Accent Long runs 5m–10m
Up to ~33 feet
Moderate
Optimized for distance
Round · 0.7mm DIA Architectural perimeter lighting. Long retail fixture runs. Trade show display borders. Vehicle outline lighting. Any run requiring 5–10m from a single module.
DualDrive recommended
Slimmer profile (0.7mm) is optimized for longer light transmission. DualDrive (module at each end) is recommended for runs over 7m to maintain even brightness end-to-end.
Welted Sewable / press-fit Varies
Match to Pop or Accent
Same as round
Profile only changes install
Keyhole cross-section Machine-sewable garments. Upholstery seams. Dashboard and trim press-fit channels. Crown molding inlay. Any application where the cable needs to be retained mechanically.
WearablesAutomotive
Keyhole shape creates a sewable welt — the cable locks into fabric or a routed channel and becomes machine washable once installed. Ships with cable pre-installed. Increases durability and waterproofing significantly.

OpalDrive, Capsule, or Infrared?

The laser module is the brain of the system — it's what converts 5V DC into the focused beam that drives the cable. Your application determines which module you need.

Designed for applications where the Capsule Module's thermal limits become a constraint — continuous-duty commercial installs, long Accent and Prism profile runs, and harsh environment deployments including marine, industrial, and outdoor architectural. The substantially improved heat sinking means the module maintains consistent output under sustained load rather than throttling back. DMX and PWM compatible. Drop-in replacement for Capsule in existing setups. Notify us if you want early access.
DualDrive Systems
Two Modules. One Wire. Infinite Color Combinations.

DualDrive kits place a laser module at each end of a single run of Laser Wire®. This serves two purposes: it maintains even brightness end-to-end on longer runs (recommended above 7m), and it enables color gradient effects that aren't possible with any other lighting technology. Two different colored modules meeting in the middle create a smooth, physical gradient — not a software effect, not a pixel transition. A real optical blend in the cable itself. Available in 2m, 5m, and 8m DualDrive systems.

Laser Wire® Prism — Long Run. Consistent Brightness.

The existing Laser Wire® profiles are optimized for runs up to 10m — beyond that, brightness falls off as the light travels down the glass core. Prism solves this for applications requiring long continuous linear runs where no other light source fits. Consistent output across the full length. Arriving Spring 2026 in two variants.

Spring 2026 · New Profile
Laser Wire® Prism
Long run · Consistent brightness · Up to 100m

Engineered specifically for long linear applications where standard profiles lose brightness before reaching the end of the run. Prism maintains consistent output across the full length — up to 100m from a single module. Brightness per meter is lower than Pop or Super Pop, but the uniformity across long distances is what no other product in the Laser Wire® line — or any competing technology — can offer. The right answer for architectural perimeter lighting, runway edge marking, large-scale retail installations, ship deck runs, and any application measured in tens of meters rather than feet.

Laser Wire® Prism SR
Strength member · Weight bearing · Search & rescue

Prism SR integrates a load-bearing strength member cable inside the Prism profile — making it the only illuminated cable that is also structurally weight-bearing. The cable can be deployed under tension, used as a guide line, or run along structural members where other light sources cannot be mechanically retained. Designed for search and rescue operations where emergency services need to mark routes, guide extraction, or maintain visual contact in zero-visibility environments — underground mines, structure fires, collapsed buildings. The same long-run, consistent-brightness profile as standard Prism, with the structural integrity to function as a lifeline.

A Laser Wire® Solution for Nearly Any Project.

Less than 1mm diameter, 360° emission, daylight visible, DMX-controllable, and available in a sewable profile. The constraint that rules out other light sources rarely rules this one out.

Retail & Point-of-Purchase
Retail Fixtures & POP Displays

The sub-1mm diameter means Laser Wire® routes through channels and along edges where LED strip physically can't fit. No diffusion panel, no additional hardware — the wire itself is the light source. Outline a product display, trace the perimeter of a shelf, or run it along the edge of an acrylic sign face. The Capsule Module with PWM gives you remote dimming and scene control without a separate driver box. Continuous operation rated. Used in trade show booths, flagship retail, and product launch installations globally.

Film, Television & Set Design
Film, TV & Set Design

Set designers and prop fabricators reach for Laser Wire® when a prop or set element needs to glow in a way that looks intentional rather than bolted-on. The wire disappears into the surface — only the light is visible. No visible LED strip, no hotspots in the frame, no 60Hz flicker under high-speed cameras. The Capsule Module integrates with DMX lighting control systems already on set. Color gradients from DualDrive add dimension to props, borders, and architectural set elements without post-production compositing. Works in practical wardrobe and props that need to survive multiple takes and live under bright stage lighting.

LED strip can't route through a 1mm channel in a dashboard seam. Laser Wire® can. The Welted Profile adds a keyhole cross-section that press-fits directly into routed trim channels without adhesive — mechanically retained, vibration resistant, removable for service. Route along door card seams, instrument cluster outlines, center console edges, and headliner perimeters. The OpalDrive battery module keeps the system self-contained and independent from the vehicle's 12V system when needed. RGB gradient effects from DualDrive create interior accent transitions not achievable with any other product on the market.

Maps, Displays & Architectural Detail
Maps, Architectural Detail & Illuminated Displays

Laser Wire® is one of the only light sources precise enough to trace the outline of a country on an illuminated map, run along the edge of an architectural detail molding, or outline the letterforms of a dimensional sign face. At 0.9mm, it fits in spaces where a human hair wouldn't look out of place. Used in museum interactive installations, operations center display walls, custom architectural millwork, illuminated wayfinding, and decorative feature panels. The ability to route the cabling in tight radii without the minimum bend radius constraints of fiber optic makes complex geometric layouts practical without custom fabrication tooling. DMX-controllable via Capsule Module for installations that need scene management.

Marine & Extreme Environments
Marine & High-Spec Outdoor

The glass core of Laser Wire® has no electronics along its length — just glass and jacketing. There is nothing to corrode, oxidize, or short between the laser module end-cap and the tip. This makes it uniquely suited for marine environments where saltwater exposure, vibration, and UV degradation rule out most LED-based solutions. The wire itself tolerates the environment; only the laser module needs to be protected. For applications demanding visibility in low light or total darkness — deck edge lighting, underwater-visible runs, or marking that needs to be seen from the air — Laser Wire® at 4–10× EL Wire brightness delivers where EL cannot.

Superyacht Helipad Landing Lights — Engineering the Impossible Brief

We're currently designing a Laser Wire® system for the helipad of a superyacht — a project we can't detail yet, but the engineering brief proves exactly what this technology is capable of. The constraints ruled out every conventional lighting solution before we were even in the room.

No electronics or flammables on the surface. A helicopter on final approach can spray jet fuel across the deck. An LED strip on that surface — with its PCB, solder joints, and polymer jacketing — represents both an ignition risk and a fuel contamination failure mode. Laser Wire® has no electronics along the cable run. Just glass and jacketing from connector to tip. Nothing to ignite.

Joint flexing and thermal expansion over long lengths. A superyacht helipad is a large structural surface subject to hull flex, wave loading, and significant temperature swing between sun and shade in marine environments. Standard LED strip cannot accommodate the joint movement across long runs — a single broken solder joint takes out a segment with no redundancy. Laser Wire® is a continuous glass core. No solder points along the run. No diodes to go dark.
