LED moving heads are stage lighting instruments that use light-emitting diodes (LEDs) to put on an amazing lighting performance during any show, event, or party. Moving head types have the advantage of being able to rotate and move in various directions, spreading light all over the room. LEDs are most commonly used for top, side or back lighting or as “audience blinders,” which are lights pointed at the audience at a low angle. These instruments can have several different colored LED lights, the standard of which are red, green and blue. When blended together, millions of different color combinations and effects can be created, giving you countless options to work with. The light output and the intensity and mixture of each color group can be easily adjusted and controlled without the help of additional dimmers by using a DMX software that can be installed on any computer.

LED moving head instruments have the potential to greatly benefit any light show through their unique and versatile features. However, it is also important to note the practical advantages of LED lighting over other conventional lighting fixtures. LEDs are much more environmentally friendly; they use far less power than other lighting and have a much higher light output. Because they need much less electricity, several units can be powered by one supply source. You can imagine the energy savings by switching to LED lighting!
Additionally, LEDs have a very low heat output, meaning that these fixtures do not really get hot. This is favorable because the lights can be used without shutting down from equipment malfunction, and there is no cool-down period required which allows for immediate break-down after use.
LED instruments have a longer service life than other options, averaging around 50,000 working hours. This is great for both your wallet and your wellbeing, as it will make the maintenance of these lights much easier and cheaper. Moving heads LEDs are also compact and portable due to their small dimensions and lightweight materials. This makes set-up extremely easy and allows them to be used in practically any setting.
Despite the overwhelming advantages to LED lighting, there are still a couple disadvantages that are mostly due to the restrictions of such technology. Because there are several sources of light coming from LED moving heads, it is difficult to attain a directed spotlight. They have a short depth in big ranges, and because of this there is breakage in the lighting and it cannot be concentrated into one solitary beam. Additionally, it can be difficult to get a “good” white color with LED lighting, and there are some colors that simply cannot be produced despite the countless possibilities with color mixing.
LED moving heads have marked huge advancement in the stage and nightclub lighting technology. Their brilliant lighting, versatility, and overwhelming benefits over other light alternatives make them a critical element of any light show.
