EL Tape (or Electroluminescent Tape) is the generally longer, and more flexible electroluminescent lamp than EL Panels. EL Tape is quickly becoming the most popular new lighting technology with movie studios, nightclubs, and more. Also referred to as; Light Tape, Tape Light, Tape Lite, and Lite Tape, EL Tape has similar properties to EL Wire, in which the entire surface of the tape glows a beautiful glow. It has an adhesive backing that allows it to stick to many surfaces and comes in a variety of lengths and widths and currently available in 4 colors.
Throughout our site, you will notice two terms frequently when referring to the different types of EL Tape or EL Panels; Split Electrode and Parallel Electrode. Split Electrode Electroluminescent is a brighter, longer lasting system, but also more expensive. Generally Split EL is used for permanent installations, or commercial applications due to its lower frequency and longer lifespan. Split Electrode runs at a lower frequency (typically 280V-300V at 650-1000Hz) versus Parallel Electrode (typically 100V-240V at 800-1100Hz). Parallel Electrode Electroluminescent is great for applications where you may need custom shapes, sizes and a more cost effective solution. One of the benefits of Parallel EL is it runs at the same frequency as our Electric Optics EL Wire. This means you can have EL Wire and EL Tape run from the same battery pack or inverter.
Put simply, Split EL is what you want when designing a lighting system for an airport, hotel, bar, or commercial use, while Parallel EL is what you want when costuming, small signage applications, or small electronic applications.
EL Tape is an easy system that consists of 3 elements, EL Tape (and quick connector), Driver (power supply) and a mounting extrusion for exterior applications. This also prevents tampering. Generally intended for indoor use, EL Tape is also available by special request in a waterproof casing (IP68) which will allow outdoor usage. Double Sided tape can be used to mount the EL Tape or a simple laminate. The extrusions on the outside of the tape allow for expansion and contraction when changes in the weather occur. EL Tape is great for bars, accent rails, hallways, stairs, and much more as it provides a glow that is easy on the eyes, yet attractive enough to be memorized.

EL Tape is by far the least expensive lighting source on the planet today. It is extremely energy efficient, using less than 8 watts per square foot (or 0.6 watts per linear foot), even with an illumination at a brightness of 140 cd/m2. A 1" wide strip of EL Tape is 40% more efficient than LED's and 60% more efficient than florescents. The efficiency rate of 1/2" light tape is twice as efficient as the 1" strip. By far the most efficient lighting element today, greater than LED's, florescents, neon, incandescents, halogens, and more, EL Tape is what you need.
EL Tape is thinner than a credit card, can be bent around nearly any surface for hundreds of feet, available for both indoors and outdoors, lasts for thousands of hours, and costs a fraction of the energy that typical bulbs need to function. Need we say more?
OK, we will! Here are some other great advantages at a flash:
- Extremely easy to install - Worlds First No Heat Technology - Consumes less power (up to 93% less energy) - Thin and flexible, typical thickness of 0.020 in (0.5 mm) - Available in a number of brilliant colors - Can be mounted on curved, flat, square or nearly surface - Can be designed to flash sequentially, or have a constant glow - Can be installed in interior and exterior - Does not break or gas emits - No Harmful Chemicals - Provides uniform illumination over a large area, up to 300 feet!
